Ina Otzko (b. 1972, Sandnessjøen) works in various media such as photography, video, sound, text, sculpture, installation and performance. Her work alternates between autobiographical, staged, documentary and art-historical approaches and revolves around questions regarding belonging and the vulnerability of man and nature where circumstances are constantly changing.
Her artistic practice is project and research based and draws inspiration from philosophy, science and poetry, her personal spiritual rituals, heritage and experience. She is interested in and explores time and consciousness, the potential within chaos, noise and silence. Challenging her own perceptions and beliefs systems through periods of solitude and contemplative silence gives ways for experimentation, improvisation and confrontation as well as just being. Her artistic production manifests as minimal or monumental works, intimate and poetic stories.
Ina holds a dual Master’s from the Image and Communication (2004) and Fine Art (2007) programs at Goldsmiths College in London and an additional Master’s degree in experimental Sound Studies (2012) from Berlin University of Arts, UdK. She is certified Deep Listening® facilitator, Yoga teacher and Reiki master/teacher.
She additionally works as an independent curator, art advisor and consultant for the private and public sector. She produces exhibitions and public art projects and is registered in KORO’s public art register. One of her projects is the well received tome, 100 Norwegian Photographers, published by Hatje Cantz, which was launched at Fotografie Forum Frankfurt and exhibited at the Norwegian Pavilion The dream we carry at the Frankfurt Book fair in October 2019. She is initiator, co-founder and Director of the artist run ArtBase Helgeland 66N. In 2018 she was the first recipient of the Art Award Twendeprisen for her artistic achevements and various engagement within the arts. Her work has been shown extensively, both nationally and internationally. She lives and works in Northern Norway and Italy.
